Internships

Jane Street primarily hires summer interns that will graduate within a year of the internship. In the last couple of years, we have had interns from Harvard, MIT, Princeton, Penn, Carnegie Mellon, Cal Tech, Brown, Waterloo, and Duke.

Spots are scarce, so we interview prospective interns as thoroughly as full time candidates. The interview season for interns is mainly in January and February.

Internships take place primarily in New York, with interns spending each half of the summer on a different desk. Most interns get a chance to visit either our London or our Tokyo office. Trading interns help traders find and execute arbitrage trades, hedge risk and search for opportunities, as well as doing research projects; quant interns perform extensive, business-related work in OCaml.

Past interns have reported that the best part of the internship is the rich educational experience. Every week brings a mix of theory classes, mock trading sessions, and guest speakers, on top of careful one-on-one mentoring with experienced traders and quants.
